Central to the owners’ life style are the kitchen and family spaces. South and west-facing windows in combination with deciduous trees that shade the house from summer sun, allow for great natural light and passive solar heating in winter months. The natural light fills the entire interior space all year and provides generous views of the surrounding woods and gardens.
Special attention was taken addressing the two sons’ bedrooms. Each bedroom provided adequate space to fit their personalities and creative nature. The stairs to the bedrooms was designed as a wrought iron rail by a local sculptor in order to fit the organic nature of the home which reflects the owners’ lifestyle and natural medical practice. The residence was designed with in-floor heat in an insulated concrete slab to address both active and passive thermal gains.
