Adaptive Reuse of a Historic 1880's Mill
Project to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Lassel Architects has been hired by Chinburg Properties to provide the design for the adaptive reuse of a historic four story 1880’s Mill Building in situated at the gateway into Saco, ME. The mill was originally designed for manufacturing textiles and has housed many other businesses over the years before becoming abandoned in the early 1980’s. The new design provides 150 residential units as well as +/- 40,000 SF of commercial space, bike storage, fitness room, and club room. The design rehabilitates, preserves and restores the existing building and places it on the National Register of Historic Places. Sustainable building practices will be integrated to provide energy efficient, durable units. The project is expected to take 14-16 months to complete, meaning tenants and residents could be ready to move in by sometime early 2016.
